Petrol and diesel cars will be history one day. This will not happen overnight and we will still drive these cars for a few decades, but it is safe to assume that their age has come to an end and the internal combustion engine will become obsolete and be replaced with more sustainable alternatives.
The purpose is to produce cars with zero emissions. Currently, this category includes battery-electric cars, some hybrids, as well as some other products that remain niche at the moment.
Hybrid cars are not all the same, but generally the term designates vehicles that use electricity stored in the reliable Toyota prius battery and petrol stored in a tank. In other words, they have two engines: electric and traditional. However, just like we said before, this arrangement varies from car to car.
For example, not all hybrid vehicles are plug-ins. Some of them charge their own batteries using the traditional engine, which is designed to power the electric engine. Plug-in hybrids can also be charged from the national grid, using a cable, just like electric cars. In the case of longer journeys and when they are used correctly, they reduce the amount of petrol, the cost per mile and the emissions of the car.
